捉迷藏 // Hide & Seek (Finding Hidden Truths)
To find hidden things
To free something from its hidden place
Three Gods of Truth stand before him. But they are all made of the supposedly abolished Foxes…?
The saga of Moon Rabbits continue! The tale gets darker as Dai discovers remnants of past Fox culture on the Moon colony. The rabbits were supposed to have moved here to get away from the Foxes…not replace them….
The Gods of Truth were originally going to be several different animal gods that the Rabbits revered. But I wanted to hint that this colony’s history was a little darker under the surface. So I chose to create Fox gods instead. Instead of showing their faces, they also wear masks very similar to the one the Rabbits use to represent the Fallen Fox.
The three Gods were based off imagery of the Chinese underworld. Each represented a way of gaining truth: knowledge through the scroll, a knife to cut down lies, and the raising paw for enlightenment. The knife is actually based off Hindu goddess, Kali and her sword that cut down ignorance.
A lot of religious symbols were dug up for this project. It was an enlightening time of research.
There is actually one more significant symbol. Dai has already gained his own “knife to cut lies.” The scissors is used to cut the ties off a Rabbit so it can tell him the truth of the statues’ history.
