Well, this took a while. I got so caught up in the cat theme, it just became three different sets! I been wanting to do a sticker series and mixed two things I love: my cat and food. Unfortunately, they couldn't all be about my cat so I created 3 different kitties, each with a unique theme: Spring, the Ocean, and Space.
Some bumps along the way: the Ocean set's coconut kitty actually used to be a ginger cat. The color scheme was far from tropical. It was a very plain design... While showing it to my peers, I noticed the Spring and Space were exciting but the Ocean one..not so much. So I added some tropical spice. :9
The tropical "Curry Butt" was my favorite. I love it when my cat loafs and makes a bun out of herself. Mmm....
If you were wondering, I chose Chinese characters because..well I'm Chinese and I don't always see stationery from my own people. It is often Korean or Japanese. I wanted to make something by my people for my people. That sounds extreme since it's only cat-themed haha...but those are my honest feelings.
There are some ideas that couldn't make it to the final result due to funding or complexity. Initially, the package was to be a matchbox..so that it would literally be a bento-lunch. Another idea was menus. I wanted to make 3 menus displaying 'what was for lunch.' There are a lot of hidden cat-deets in the designs. I thought a menu might help. Unfortunately, I didn't know where this menu would go in terms of package/display.
The drinks are my favorite. Based off Melon Soda, Soymilk, and Canned Coffee. Melons looked like yarnballs, and kitty toe-beans were like soybeans! And an Astro-Cool Cat? Yeah.
Thinking back on it, this was a fun project. I got to combine weird themes and make food. I'm telling you, if I could draw food for a living..I'd be set.
And last but not least, here is Pancake the shopkeeper posing with her wares.
